My Favourite Eco-Friendly Household Products

Finding eco-friendly household products that actually work can be a slight challenge.

I started trying different eco-friendly household products a few years ago when I learned that companies are not required by law to list all ingredients in their products. Eco-friendly companies, however, are known for being more open with listing the ingredients within their products.

Why should you care?

Common household products and personal care products are noted by the EPA as being “contaminants of emerging concern”. Research is showing that chemicals from traditional household products are increasingly being found in surface and ground water. Thankfully, most homes have their water filtered through water treatment plants. But through the filtration process, toxic chemicals like parabens end up back in the environment. These chemicals contaminate marine life and equally, don’t spell great news for people who consume seafood. Because of this, it is important for both our bodies and the environment to be knowledgable about the ingredients in our household products.

But who has the time to try out various eco-friendly household products?

Apparently, me. Which is lucky for you! Below are my 4 favourite eco-friendly household products (with affiliate links) that actually work.

1.)

I absolutely love Attitude Bathroom. Firstly, it has a light lemony scent that doesn’t overpower like traditional cleaners. The cleaner is hypoallergenic, PETA approved, and is made with vegetable and mineral-based sources. And that’s just the beginning! You can check out Attitude for more information on what makes their products unique.

2.)

I came across If You Care Natural Sponge Cloth when I was searching for an alternative to the basic household sponges. And let me tell you, they are amazing. The natural sponge cloth is super eco-friendly, reusable, washable and compostable! The packaging is even a biopolymer made from corn starch. Learn more about their patented process here.

3.)

I am a super fan of the Honest Dryer Cloths. My daughter has been dealing with eczema since she was 4 months old. The Honest Dryer Cloths are the only dryer sheet alternative to not irritate her skin. Honest cloths are made without SLS, fragrance, dyes, chlorine, or optical brighteners. Importantly, they are also reusable! Learn more about the Honest Company and their products here.

4.)
Recently, we began washing all our produce with AllOrganic Fruit & Veggie Wash. All fruits and vegetables can be exposed to pesticides, chemicals and germs from field to purchase. With that in mind, it just makes sense to clean your produce with an organic wash. Lastly, AllOrganic Fruit and Veggie Wash is safe for septic and greywater systems, biodegradable and free from harmful chemicals.

Have an eco-friendly product that you love? Tell me about it in the comments!

Let’s Talk: Postpartum Depression

postpartum depression

Postpartum depression is something that mothers are really only just beginning to discuss out loud. And I would argue that most mothers are still prone to only discussing postpartum depression after the fact. I’ve been thinking for a long time about how to best approach this initial discussion about PPD, having realized long ago that […]

I am not a patient person by nature. For me, patience has been a learned skill. And a slowly learned skill at that. Goal Setting: Planning Your Best Year EVER

goal-setting

Goal setting and planning for the New Year is one of my favourite things. Two years ago, I started taking my goal setting seriously.
